After a few small bumps our 3.0.0 release is finally our stable release! Notable features in the 3.0.0 release:
- Enlightenment E19.3
- Terminology 0.8.0
- ePad 0.9.0
- Numix Icons
- Linux Kernel 3.16
- Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Core
The release images for 3.0.0 support a wide range of hardware including:
- Non-PAE Processors
- UEFI BIOS
- SeaBIOS Chromebooks
Our stable release is not the only thing that is new at Bodhi Linux this month. Our main website, AppCenter, Wiki, and Forums have all gotten complete overhauls to go along side this new release. A big thank you goes out to our Web Admin, Sys Admin, and the community populating the fresh wiki for all of their hard work.
If you are new to Bodhi Linux please take a look at the Quick Start Guide that opens by default when you first boot the LiveCD / Operating System. It covers many questions new users have and odds are will save you any confusion you might have while getting to know your way around Bodhi. Should you encounter any issues with your Bodhi Linux 3.0.0 install you can request support on our user forums.
Users who had installed a pre-release version of 3.0.0 can upgrade to the final release via their package manager. Users who are on a previous major release (such as 2.x.y) will need to reinstall their operating system to move to 3.0.0. That being said – 2.4.0 will be supported until April 2017, so there is not any rush to upgrade.
Thanks for choosing Bodhi Linux!
This is amazing, thanks for all your hard work.
Happy to see people supporting legacy hardware.
🙂
And happy that you are using enlightenment, it really is the one stop hybrid WM/DE
Hi Jeff, nice to see you back. The Chromebook image appears to be the first of its kind. I’ve been searching for an inexpensive laptop for the kids going into highschool (that isn’t a linux/unusable convertable latop) and that can run Linux/Ubuntu. They’ve tried ChromeOS and don’t like it for wordprocessing. Your image is just the thing! This makes me seriously consider buying the Chromebook. A couple questions: I couldn’t tell whether your install removes ChromeOS entirely? Okay if it does. Also, there are several models of the C720. Is your Bodhi ISO compatible with all of them?
It is compatible with all C720 versions. We do not currently support dual booting Chrome OS with Bodhi as Bodhi with Google’s branded Chrome browser does everything Chrome OS can. If you run into any problems be sure to hit up the forums.
Thanks! I was hoping it was *not* dual boot. That sounds perfect. 🙂
packages: deb http://packages.bodhilinux.com/bodhi trusty main
sudo apt-key adv –keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com –recv-keys ????
what/where is the key for the packages?
The Bodhi repository is not signed.
¡Thank you!.
You made it mr JEFF 🙂 take all my respects
Glad to see another ubuntu flavor with e19 DE
I Loved the saving eyes’s dark theme
This Bodhi site is amazing
Happy for legacy hardware support
Hope you bring the Default E17 BLING theme

Congratulations!
Thanks Jeff and Teams! 🙂
Bodhi so far is my Linux of choice for small and old computer, or
Any computer that I want it fast! 🙂
Hi, Jeff! I would like to know if Bodhi linux 3.0.0 with E19.3 has any support to “Startup Notification”, I mean an animated, bouncing or hourglass mouse cursor, when you click any application and the mouse cursor gets bouncing or hourglass (it depends on the cursor mouse theme) until the program is completely loaded? If so, how can it be enabled? thanks!!!!
Not sure off hand. Asking on our forums or e-mailing list might yield a better answer.
I have used bohdi 3 as a live image with success and I am quite impressed. Enlighten is different from gnome or kde and I liked it.
I would like to install it on my /dev/sdd (which bohdi shows it as a /dev/sde). On this drive I set aside a 300gig freespace partition on this 1 terrabyte gpt partitioned drive. I was not able to complete the installation. Even though I the installer saw it. It wanted me to assign /boot, / /home and /swap but I did not find the tools to do so.
Can bohdi install onto a gpt formatted drive? When I told bohdi installer to use free space, it elected to delete some partitions on other drives and to distribute files amongst the disks. To protect my system, I quit to try different methods to assign / /boot /root / and /swap
The only partition you are required to assign to install Bodhi is a root partition (/). If you have questions about the specifics of doing this I would ask that you open a support request on our user forums.
Hi Jeff,
It was only by accident that during the install process I doubleclicked at the correct (slower than what I am accustomed to doing) speed for the partition subwindow to open. That done, I configured bodhi and booted the system.
I did run into, for me, minor implementation issues. I chose French Canada as the implementation keyboard. It was setup correctly in the virtual terminal, but not in the gui. I explored and found the location and was able to correct.
I was looking for where I could adjust the double click timing for the mouse. I did not find it.
With those two items covered, Bodhi is alive and very well on my system.
Very nice. Now to get into the mindset of enlightenment.
Take a look at the Quick Start guide for details on keyboard configuration in Enlightenment. Have any other issues be sure to open a support request on our user forums.
Hi Jeff,
I have no issues with Bodhi. I would however like to change the double click detection speed. I adjusted my double click speed to match the response time of my system. I would have actually liked to adjust the system to match my double click speed.
You can find mouse controls in the settings panel. If you need a hand with the specifics please open a support request on our user forums.
I’m currently trying this release in virtualbox and so far it rocks. I only wish there’s a detailed tutorial of E19. I visited the Enlightenment Archwiki, but still I couldn’t find answers to many questions. For instance, and it may sound like stupid, but the truth is I’ve been looking for a way to hide/show icons on the desktop and couldn’t find one. Surely it’s there but I couldn’t locate it. Besides I’d like to know some other things like the difference between ibar and ibox and things like that. I’ve been able to find my way through some features like adding applications to the top panel but I’m also missing on a lot others. So I believe that a detailed tutorial of E19 will solve the problem.
An updated Enlightenment guide is already being worked on. You can follow the progress here -> http://www.bodhilinux.com/w/enlightenment-guide/
If you have suggestions for additional topics it should cover bring them up on the user forums.
Thank you Jeff for the prompt reply. I’ll have a look at the guide and give a hand with suggestions. Best of luck to all the people involved in this project.
Dear Jeff, Im a noob trying to resuscitate a Dell 910 mini 1.6 N270 Atom 1 gb ram running the bloated Win xp. The evil Broadcom wireless 4312 chip 14e04 4315 is onboard. Will Bodhi run ootb? as I dont have a wired connection. Thx so much, phil
Live CDs are a wonderful thing. Give it a try.
The older versions used to have a Scientific Publishing package with all the dependencies, including TeXMaker, PDF Reader, and such.
Not any more?
All of these pieces of software are in the software repositories. We do not currently have any “application packs” on the AppCenter as users should be able to select their own software. If there is demand perhaps we can re-add them.
I’m a past user of Bodhi Linux–one important question: Will I have to install any proprietary graphics drivers along with 3.0.0? My desktop uses an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card…congrats on the brand new release, btw…
Closed source drivers are not needed for basic 2D support. Nvidia cards require closed source drivers for full 3D support though.
I am extremely excited to try Bodhi Linux. I was getting sick of all the unnecessary packages in my OS. Finally, an OS that lets me choose the software *but* does not expect me to install network drivers and other basic things (hint: slackware, arch).
Really hoping Enlightenment is awesome enough for me to stick to Bodhi. Nonetheless, great job, guys! 🙂 #respect
Keep in mind it is likely easier to remove Enlightenment from Bodhi and add a different desktop than it is to remove a bunch of stuff from something else.
That being said – I hope you enjoy E. It is wonderful.
Dear Jeff, The file selector show nothing when applying new themes!
i am using bodhi legacy
As indicated on the current appcenter theme pages, those themes are only for E19.
For this i shose to get themes from exchange.enlightenment.org instead of appcenter because of the Bodhi legacy version
I got (BLINGBLING & Detour) and those are e17 compatible, everything works but file selector
Thanks Jeff and team!
Also thanks for the non-PAE version, keeping some good hardware from being obsoloete (thinkpad T42), and making the use of it an enjoyable experience. I like t think there is a shrine in a computers spirit world where they worship you for having brought them from XP all the way to Enlightenment. Can you imagine how this old PC feels, it’s forever young 😀
I have 2.4.0 installed. How do I upgrade to 3.0.0 without wiping everything out?
There is not a direct upgrade path between major Bodhi releases. You will need to back up your data and reinstall the operating system to move from 2.x.y to 3.0.0
Hi Jeff !
I’m a Linux distro enthusiast, I’ve tried Bodhi for two months and I loved it ! I tried the 3.0.0-RC2 and it’s so smooth, it also feels different (I’ve tried Enlightenment before on Debian, but it feels different when I try it on Bodhi)
Great job, Jeff & Bodhi Dev Team !
have made review for russian-speaking http://divtech.pp.ua/?p=469
I’m trying to install the new Chromebook version onto my Acer C720, but it’s not working when I try to boot into the hard drive. I had version 2.4.0 running fine, but for some reason 3.0.0 is not working for me. Any idea what could be going wrong?
For trouble shooting issues please open a support request on our user forums.
Thanks. It turns out that you’ve already identified the problem. When i switched to a new flash drive, it all worked beautifully.
Yikes, just find it tonight,
Initramfs problem on Bodhi 64. No problem in 64-RC2 back then, on different compi (I have 2 same type HP Pav 14 AMD 8 Laptop). Something wrong?
Please open support requests on our user forums. Debugging technical issues is outside the scope of this comments section.
Thanks. 🙂
Need to wait for modration though (I am not registered yet)
Hi, it appears Yahoo still has issues with our forum’s email, so your validation email might be in your spambox – though that’s irrelevant now that I manually validated your account. Welcome to Bodhi! =)
Dear Aeonius,
Thanks a lot! 🙂
You’re welcome
Hi! No sound. Motherboad codec Realtek ALC887. Were are download driver?
Thanks.

I tried using safe graphics and the start up website is too small to read, just need someone to lead me to where the nvidia graphics card can be appied.
S o sorry for my poor navigation skills.
thankyou

Just came to the site to see if Bodhi Linux project is still alive… Not disappointed 🙂 I’m still rocking Bodhi 2.1.0 on Enlightenment 16.999… I guess it’s time to upgrade \o/
Welcome home! =)
Jeff, you be awesome. I am hoping that V3 will still run on my 2004 Gateway AMD-64 laptop. Your work has kept that beautiful machine alive. Granted, it still will run XP, but I have Excel on other machines.
What is your take on the new RPi quad-core ARM?
Thank you for your work. It is very nice to see that Bodhi is still alive. I can’t offer you my service and I’m just a user. But I like your linux distri.
Booted the live CD under virtualbox on my Gluglug Thinkpad X60 under Trisquel and got a message telling me that Enlightenment SEGV’d — clicking recover seems to have worked, but it told me I was running “unsupported modules”? Not sure.
If it’s working now, great! If you have any issues and need help, please post on our forums. Thank you.
If you are having issues please open a support request on our user forums.
Dear Jeff, congrats on your new release !!
I’m a student and I have a really old computer running XP with 2gb ram, 1gb hard disk and other necessary things like keyboards and music systems.
I’m interested in Bodhi Linux and have read the reviews and from that I think it could be perfect to do some real programming on it! 🙂
But before I take the plunge I hav a few questions to ask.
Does Bodhi Linux require any device drivers? XP required so and it is a real pain to get those from the internet. And from what I’ve read before in this post it says that I require device drivers for 3d graphics.Am I true and can you tell me more such areas where you require this things?
My second question and the most important one is this,
I’m a programmer and I want a computer to program in it.Does Bodhi Linux support popular IDEs like Codeblocks for C/C++ and Netbeans for Java? If not then are there any other IDEs in which I can program in C++ and Java? And is a compiler like Gcc supported in this OS? Even if no IDE is there I will get this version of Linux as its lightweight,so programming in the command line is also ok for me but I could be happy if there is a guide to it.
Thanks Jeff for your time and again congrats to this wonderful OS!!
Just give the live disc a try and see if it works for you. Bodhi will meet all of the needs you’ve listed here. If you run into any issues open a support request on our user forums.
Great job! Only prob I have is finding the theme packs for E-17 jthat you used to have for 2.3. Where are they?
You can find the E17 themes we officially support on the AppCenter. Any other themes you find are used at your own risk.
Thanks Jeff. I really liked the theme packs. It made it so easy to switch all the theme elements at once. Will any theme made for e-17 work? How do I install them?
Thanks again! Keep up the great work!
Most all of the old themes need some major retooling – even for our E17 desktop. We will be adding fully functional themes to our AppCenter as they get updated.
Thanks. I’ll wait as patiently as I can. Nothing keeps my old celeron banger screaming like Bodhi!
Thanks Jeff, loving v3.
I cannot boot the live image. It tries to get the filesystem from /dev/sdb, which in my case is a CD-ROM. Also why is the need for unetbootin? Why just using dd does not work? Thanks, any advice appreciated.
You can create a bootable USB device using the DD command. We just recommend Unetbootin as it is easier for many people to use. If you are having trouble getting started please open a support request on our user forums.
It seems I got two different problems, but finally I could solve it. My desktop PC is a new Acer Aspire, and it might have been due to UEFI. I followed this guide: http://www.bodhilinux.com/2015/02/17/bodhi-linux-3-0-0-release/#comment-625, basically I created a FAT32 filesystem on my USB stick, and extracted the ISO image there. (I had to fix two symlinks manually). Now all is well, but it is strange that noone else had problem with this.
Sorry, the link to the guide is here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/395879/how-to-create-uefi-only-bootable-usb-live-media
By the way, nice release!
Hello, Jeff
I was wondering if there you could try making an armhf tar.gz file for the nexus 7 (Bodhi version 3.0.0)? If not could you tell me of some way to make one myself? Also if I install an older version of Bodhi on my nexus 7 could I update it to 3.0.0?
We no longer support ARM devices.
Thanks for your help, Jeff
Best, Raphael
Hi,
Could not get mobile broadband (O2 Ireland) to work. Tried two modems and to laptops; no luck. Is there an answer? Previous to Bodhi 3.0 I had no problems.
Please open a support request on our user forums.
Sorry, but Bodhi 3.0.0 is a disappointment. Bodhi 2.4.0 was much better. I don’t know exactly what the reason is. Perhaps its E19. Bodhi 3.0.0 appears to be more buggy. It appears Enlightenment is treading the same path as Gnome, not improving but getting worse. I’ve been a long time fan of Bodhi and its regrettable that I switched to Lubuntu. I miss Bodhi 2.4.0 and don’t really want to use Lubuntu. Sorry for the bad feedback but I hope its constructive. I know your team worked hard despite the very long and frustrating wait. Is there a way that I can install Bodhi 3.0.0 but return to E17, and the look & feel of Bodhi 2.4.0?
You can switch to E17 (the same desktop Bodhi 2.4.0 uses) by following the directions here.
I have version 2.4.0 installed in one of my machines. Is it possible to switch to the latest versions without having to refresh everything? Also people seemed to have some bugs in Bodhi 3.0.0. Is it stable enough now? Sorry for too may question, that’s my main office machine. So just being a little careful.
No. Any time there’s a major update, which is the x in x.y.z (as in 2.4.0), you’ll have to start from scratch. As for it being stable, I’d say yes, best way to find out is to try.
Hello
I have a problem with LIN Habu, an accounting program from Mc judge.
Under Ubuntu, it runs without problems under the Bodhi panels are not displayed. Can you help me with this problem?

Decided to give Bodhi a try again. I used it a few years back on and old HPDV5000 laptop – the only distro out of the box, I found, that supported the Broadcom wifi card it had. I am trying it out on some old Dell “D” series laptops – an 820 and a 620. My go to (I use in in conjunction with windows to do my work) at this time is Mint in XFCE, but I have had a soft spot for Bohdi since the old – now defunct HP. Not sure if you guys are interested in user test feedback (I look into various distros to see if they can fit a productive niche – I will specifically be testing how well I can use MyPaint and Inkscape cross platform between Bohdi and Windows, as well as drawing tablet support – which will be dependent on the kernel). I will check to see if you have a place for that kind of thing. Love the fact that it is a fast interface regardless of how old the hardware is! Still love the default original theme.
All the best on this interesting distro!!!
